When you are a trade union member of 3F, we usually process some pieces of information about you in order that we, as a trade union, can safeguard your interests in the best possible way. As Denmark's strongest trade union, it is important that you are confident that we process your information legally, objectively and transparently.
The primary purpose of our processing of your personal data is that we can help you in the best possible way that your trade union rights are complied with. In addition, we also process your information for a number of other purposes – e.g. in connection with PlusKort membership benefits which you can read more about below, or if you use some of our other membership benefits such as courses and holiday houses.
We comply with the basic principles for processing of personal data, which i.a. means that:
3F is a trade union which in addition to the very federation of trade unions 3F comprises a number of independent and sovereign local trade unions that constitute the democratic and locally founded force in 3F.
When you are a member of 3F, you join a trade union, but at the same time you become a member of the federation of trade unions 3F. The federation and the unions are the data controllers. We also have the programme PlusKort of which you automatically become a member when you become a trade union member of 3F.
The federation 3F therefore receives and processes information about your joining from your local 3F branch.
If you want to know more about our processing of your personal data, you are welcome to contact us at:
The HR department
Kampmannsgade 4, 1604 Copenhagen V
E-mail: 3fhr@3f.dk
Telephone: 70 300 300
You can otherwise also contact your local 3F branch. You can find the contact information here.
We process this information about you in order to fulfil our obligations as a trade union. This includes i.a. the following information:
In addition, we can process sensitive/special categories of data about you – e.g. in connection with cases on breach of the collective agreement, disciplinary cases, warnings, unjustified dismissal or other similar cases where it is necessary that we can process this information to help you in the best possible way. These sensitive/special categories of information are e.g.:
Finally, we may process information about criminal acts – e.g. in connection with dismissal and disciplinary cases arising out of a suspicion on any criminal acts.
As the predominant point of departure, we only process your sensitive/special categories of information and information about criminal acts which we receive directly from you.
Without basic identification information and your civil registration number, we are unable to offer you membership of 3F.
It is voluntary if you want to use our advice and assistance in industrial cases, but without information about the reason for dismissal, unemployment, your employment history or your sensitive information etc. we cannot provide you with optimal assistance and advice.
As a starting point, we process your identification information based on an agreement with you when you choose to join one of 3F's local trade unions. The processing of any sensitive/special categories of information that we process about you is made based on the special rules applicable to trade unions in EU's data protection regulation, the supplementary Danish data protection legislation and any special legislation.
These special rules mean i.a. that we may share your data between the various independent local trade unions and the federation 3F, because in legal terms we constitute one trade union association.
The purpose of the processing and exchange of your information between the federation and the local trade union in connection with your joining and membership is to enable us to act out our legitimate trade union activities. Including to help you if your employer contravenes the laws, rules and agreements applicable on the labour market, and to provide ongoing help and assistance in connection with your employment law matters, in the case of unemployment, or in other work-related situations which may arise.
We retain your information as long as you are a member of 3F, including for as long as we have an objective basis.
When you are no longer a member of 3F, we retain the information if we have an objective basis for doing so. We will e.g. have an objective basis for retaining your data for long time if you have had an industrial injury case, a case about breach of a collective agreement, cases of fundamental importance or other events making it necessary that we store your information.
Further, there are cases in which we are ordered to keep the information for a period set out in legislation. For instance, we keep accounting records, e.g. on payment and invoicing of membership fees, according to the principles in the Danish Bookkeeping Act.
Since 3F is considered one association of many local trade unions, information is exchanged between the federation and the local branches, when actual cases so require.
When you become a member of 3F, you automatically also become a member of PlusKort, and obtain membership benefits through the PlusKort scheme. In that connection, 3F uses PlusKort as a data processor with whom a data processing agreement has been concluded.
In connection with cases where we safeguard your interests, we can also exchange information with your employer.
There may also be cases where we are obliged to share your information with public authorities, e.g. in connection with industrial injury cases, where in connection with your case we must cooperate with e.g. AES, the police or the courts of law.
Further, we can exchange information with PensionDanmark in relation to control of the pension contributions of our members.
We obtain your consent to disclose your data when we are under an obligation to do so.
We may also disclose information to our auditors in connection with the presentation of financial statements and to our lawyers in the case of actual cases with you (e.g. in instances where we conduct cases on your behalf).
We also use data processors, e.g. in connection with the operation of IT systems who always operate on our behalf and according to instructions from us.
We use the data to optimise your user experience on our own platforms, including 3f.dk, and to target and personalize our communication to your, including contents in newsletters (based on your consent where this is required by law), and to target external advertising on social media, including Facebook.
Under the data protection legislation, you have a number of rights that we as data controllers must comply with. These rights are:
You are entitled to file a complaint to the Danish Data Protection Agency about our processing of your personal data.
The contact information of the Danish data Protection Agency is as follows:
